That's all Patrick and Jason thought they would need, but it turns out God had a different plan.

Bugabo Vilalge is a partly Christian, yet majority Witchcraft Village, in Uganda, Africa. There are about 200 people living in this village, so Patrick and Jason set off with 300 Bibles to spread the word of God. Little did they know that they would touch many more lives. Within the first few days they gave out all 300 Bibles to the people of the village, and many others who traveled to receive the word of God. With many, many more people coming, they decided they couldn't stop now.

This is where you can come in. Patrick and Jason are praying to be able to purchase more Bibles by this Friday, hoping to spread the word of God even more. The Bibles are printed in the village's native language and cost $12 per Bible. If you feel called to, please make a donation towards this amazing cause. Visit their website, Touch + Lift Uganda 2012, to read more about their mission and learn how to donate (right side column).

This is an incredible mission, led by incredible people with an amazing story. So please, if you feel called to, donate now, and please pray for the Touch + Lift Uganda mission, and that they are able to purchase many more bibles and share the word of God.

Thanks,
It was soo much fun and such a success!!!!

About 25 hard working teens showed up for the party, and they all pretty much broke into groups and made the pairs of shoes together. All the pairs of shoes made were definitely a team effort!! Every time this one team made a pair they broke out in screams (all in fun), making the other teams work faster, determined to catch up to this highly determined team.
Some were very organized and made sure their pieces of fabric went a loooong ways, but some ...well lets just say it wasn't exactly organized....but they ended up with the same amount of pairs of shoes made as the organized teams, so it worked out in the end.
The surgery was to be yesterday (our time), but they found out that Margret had a very special blood type and needed donors..I find that this fits Margret perfectly..she is a very special person much like her blood type:)

They found the donor needed and was able to proceed with the surgery today (our time). They were able to remove 2 of the 3 tumors and have sent them in for testing. They said that Margret did very well and is doing great. So overall the surgery was very much a success!!

I also found out that Margret LOVED the care book we sent her!! Thank you again to all of you that wrote Margret a letter during the Messages for Margret fundraiser. They were very special letters and I'm sure she reads them often.
This is the first day of the rest of her life now that this surgery has taken out most of her tumors and she is now on the road to recovery.

Please pray for Margret as she recovers from the surgery and that the tests from the tumors come back as not cancer. Thanks!!Orphan Lifeguardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597305074393392002noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332869284931769882.post-71518120782456601772012-01-22T20:04:00.000-08:002012-01-22T20:34:24.079-08:00Ready for the Party!!!Its almost here and I'm ready!!!! The Sole Hope Shoe Cutting Party I'm hosting at my church is coming up this Sunday, and today I went shopping for the fabrics needed for the shoes. It was SO MUCH FUN!!!

My trek to find material for the shoes started at a local fabric store. It wasn't as easy as you would think. We asked if they would be willing to donate to our cause some old fabrics that they weren't going to use, but they had to call the manager, and then he had to call corporate, which told him to tell us to call customer service, because they didn't know if they were allowed to donate. So we politely took down the number, but decided in the car that it was wayyyyy too much of a hassle.

My next stop was my mom's idea. We went to our local bargain store and as soon as we entered the store we knew this was the place! The pants and jeans with red tags were all on sale for a DOLLAR!!!! Soft pants are the best for the insides of the shoes, and jeans are perfect material for the outsides. The Lord definitely provided.

It was sooo fun looking for the biggest pairs, coolest patterns/colors, and softest fabrics. We ended up with 11 pairs of jeans, and 11 pairs of pants. The cost came to about 22 dollars...that's almost about how much I would pay for one pair of my jeans!! And I was able to buy 22!! What a blessing!!
It makes me feel grateful for what I have, and for organizations that do help for those in need.Such as Tree*.

I was so happy when my bible study group decided to help out and bring clothes to our last group meeting. Even though they might not have the same calling to start their own donation drive, and be part of saving orphans lives, I think its so cool that they still want to help out others who do.

As I started unloading our car trunk full of clothes, toys, and books, I couldn't stop thinking about all of the foster children who will get Christmas presents this year thanks to the help of me, others, and this wonderful organization.

Thank you to all of you who donated!!! Margret is blessed to be able to go to this clinic.

As you know, I have started a new project for the months of November and December. I have decided to donate some of my clothes and old toys to a local foster kid organization. I am so excited to be giving back to kids in my area.

I have picked the date and I will be going to drop off my donations on Friday, December 9th. I will be sure to post pictures.

Also, for those of you who know me personally, and would like to help out with some donations of your own, contact me before the 9th and we can figure out a time for me to collect your donations.

And for all of you who don't know me personally, you can STILL HELP OUT by buying on Orphan Lifeguard T-shirt. All profits from the t-shirt sales will go towards toys!!! I will buy brand new toys for this outstanding organization.

Looking forward to cleaning out my closet and dresser! Thinking about adding some newness to the Tree* store for all the kiddos wanting that special something to wear during the holidays, or to receive as gifts.

Now you are ... Up To Speed!!
Orphan Lifeguardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597305074393392002noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332869284931769882.post-77748555523168006302011-11-13T17:10:00.000-08:002011-11-13T17:10:46.248-08:00The Season Of GivingWhen I was about 8, I was into hand making a present for every single one of my family members. My cousins, my aunts and uncles, my grandparents, my parents, and my brother. Every present was unique and represented them. I would plan months before in order to get it all done in time for Christmas.

I loved making and planning and wrapping the gifts, despite all the time and effort it took to get it all done. It was worth it when I saw the thankful expression on their faces. Even though the present wasn't a name brand or excellent quality, it still meant a lot to know that someone took all that time to do something, even very small, for you.

As I grew older I became more busy during the holiday season and didn't have as much time to give handmade gifts.

I want to start giving again, with more of a purpose, to give back to those in need, who might not get very much of anything this holiday season.

Last year my family and I wanted to find an organization that we could get involved with; one that we could raise funds for, or get the word out for. That's how we found out about Tree*. An organization that collects donations for foster children in our county.

They have a huge ware house that serves as a store that holds all the donations; which range from toys, to clothes, to books, and even bikes! The foster children and their foster family get to go into this store many times a year to get anything they want absolutely free!

This year to give back to my community this holiday season, I have decided to go through my closet and give away any of the clothes that I don't wear often enough, or can't fit into, to Tree*. By doing this simple act of kindness, I will be supplying Christmas presents for foster children all over my city.

~For those of you in my area, and who want to help me by giving donations, email me and we can figure something out.
Rachael

Jessica

Nina

Brenda

Linda

Robin

Your messages mean a lot to us and they are truly a gift.

For all of you who donated, but have not written, please do so soon!!! If you don't know what you should write, but still want to write, I came up with a few prompts.

1. You could give words of encouragement. Tell her she's beautiful, and she is loved.

2. You could write her a prayer.

3. You could tell her a story about how you heard about her condition....Someone (I won't name who) wrote a really sweet note to Margret, about how their family had a yard sale, and ended up donating ALL the funds to Margret's cause!!

So to everyone who donated, I really would appreciate your message. It would be really cool to send a whole scrapbook FULL of messages to her!!

Please write to Margret ... send me a Comment if you are unclear of how to write a Message 4 Margret. Thank You!Orphan Lifeguardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597305074393392002noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332869284931769882.post-70758832927211691602011-11-01T07:11:00.000-07:002011-11-01T07:22:26.932-07:00And the winner is ...Orphan Lifeguardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597305074393392002noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332869284931769882.post-13458729867248132342011-10-30T16:52:00.000-07:002011-10-30T16:52:55.826-07:00IMPORTANT!!!!

Look at her, she's a typical teenage girl, havin' fun with the camera. This photo was taken on the way to her doctor appointment, and even though on the ride there she was nervous, she found ways to have fun. Help me bring another sweet smile to this teenage girls face, in a scary time in her life, and write a Message to Margret ASAP!!!

For those who donated, you have a Carepages invite waiting for you to respond to in your email. It only takes like 2 seconds to get on my message board. Just write from your heart. A simple act of kindness, writing to a teen in Zambia, from the convenience of your computer that most Americans are on 24/7, will mean THE WORLD to Margret and me.

So pleeease write!!! I can't wait to make her book of messages and send it to her!
It all started Friday when I jumped into the car after school and my mom told me about Margret, and her condition, and I knew at that moment that I needed to take on the challenge of raising the funds.
I was at the party when my mom came up to me to tell me that we were already halfway to our goal for Margret!! I was extremely surprised, I WAS NOT expecting to raise so much money in a little over 24 hours!! We didn't end up coming home until 12:30 at night (or should I say, Morning!).

This morning I was woken up at 7:15am by my mom telling me I had raised $1,861 for Margret. I quickly...OK....well slowly 'cuz I was going on few hours of sleep...made my way downstairs and blogged about our success. 2 hours later we made our goal. Wow, amazing.

I left for church feeling great, I had just raised $2,000 for a sweet girl in Zambia who needed life saving surgery, how many teens can say that?! I knew that this was God's plan for me, helping orphans around the world, that this is what I'm supposed to be doing.

I just finished deflating the 23 balls and packaged them up to be shipped to Rachael on Tuesday. I can't wait!! The kids in Ukraine will be soo excited to see all of their new sports balls that they get to play with!!!
We went over and above and raised $325!!! I will be going shopping TONIGHT and I will blog about my trip this weekend. I am so excited and so appreciative for all of you that participated!!! Thank you for your prayers and donations!! I will still have the drawing for the winner of the unique Orphan Lifeguard item on November 1st ... stay tuned!

When I started Orphan Lifeguard, I had expected to do a project every few months with things being kinda slow to start. I was okay with that, as I really just wanted it to be free-flowing and in response to when something tugged at my heart. Well, something is already tugging at my heart. I've learned that when God opens doors for you, you don't close them because it was not what you thought your timeline would be or what you were expecting, you go inside and do what He's calling you to do.

It all started the last week of July, my family found out that our sponsored Wiphan child, Margret, had at the time what we thought was Elephantitis; which is a disease that makes certain limbs swell out of control, and there really is no cure. Margret was showing these signs in her right leg.

Our August Care Package to her just
before her 1st Doctor Appointment

However, yesterday we got word from Wiphan that her doctors appointment did not show Elephantitis, but it was clear that she has large tumors in her buttocks, her lower back, and her thigh which could be causing her leg to swell.

Tumors? When I read that word I was devastated and very sad for her. Even though I have never met her before I am always thinking about her. I feel a connection to her because she is close to my age, and we have her picture on our fridge. I see her face every day and think about her, and wonder about what it is that she is doing. The letters she writes to us are so sweet and I love how she always includes stickers or a hand drawing. I can really tell that she tries hard in school and likes being there through her writings to us.

I continued to learn through Wiphan that the Tumors have to be removed. They have to be removed in order to save her life. People can not survive living with tumors. Her leg, obviously, is not getting better, only worse. It is hard to imagine what it would be like for someone with so little technology, and limited accessibility to medical care, would feel like when they walk into the medical room when she gets her surgery with all those lights and medical equipment. I am sure it will be very overwhelming and very scary. It would be for me, and I have seen medical technology before just in routine medical care.

Once the tumors are removed, they will test to see if the tumors are cancerous or not. We are praying for cancer-free results. If they are cancerous - well, let's just not think about that right now. My goal is to help her get through surgery first and be blessed with great news.

Also, the surgery will determine if the tumors were the direct cause of the swelling, or if there is a problem with her Lymph Nodes. That would not be good too, as Lymph Node issue could lead to many additional problems. I am praying too that the removal of all the tumors heals Margret completely!

What God has shown me in the months since we've heard about Margret's leg, and the recent news of the tumors, is that I have more ways to help outside of praying constantly for her. I live in a country that exceeds in money. I know there is talk of economic stuff, but really ... we still have money. We have money to give to others. We have money to save a child's life. We have the way and the power to directly impact Margret.

She does not have money for doctor care, for surgery, for recovery, for medicine. Wiphan and I are her Lifeguards. We are committed to being the Hands and Feet of Jesus - to call upon His people - to raise the money necessary for her surgery and treatments to take place.

Will you join me?

Our goal is to raise $2,000 estimated for her surgery and additional care. I believe without a doubt that we CAN and WILL raise the money in time for her surgery; which needs to happen as soon as possible. If you feel called to help, please keep reading.
Messages 4 Margret:
Here's the deal: when you donate online at Wiphan, it will open access to my CarePage Website that I have created for Margret. With the online invitation, you can write as many messages as you wish for Margret. Words of encouragement, bible verses, prayers, and cheers. If you are a Wiphan Sponsor, you could also include which child you sponsor in your message, as Margret might have a connection with your sponsored child!!

Once we have raised our goal, I will create a book of ALL of the messages for Margret. Worried about English that she may not speak or read? Put away that Zambian Dictionary that we all have lying around the house, because we have that covered!! Our sweet Wiphan friend, Kristin, will be sure that every word of every message will be translated and read to Margret personally. WHAT FUN!!!

Can you imagine? She is a sweet girl, going through this life saving change, and she will be BLOWN AWAY by the number of people who care for her around the World!! She will enjoy hearing all of your sweet messages for her. What better way to communicate the Love of Christ and have a direct impact your donation, and your messages, will have in her life!!

All donations will be collected through Wiphan. They will handle all of the money as they have the direct access to the medical care for Margret and are the ones overseeing all of the details. Because you are donating to Wiphan directly, your money is also tax deductible. Orphan Lifeguard's job in the journey with Margret is being her BIGGEST FAN and CHEERLEADER, encouraging the raising of these life saving funds, and collecting all of the messages for her. I am so excited to be teaming up with Wiphan ... and You!

How do you donate and get access to Messages 4 Margret?? Keep reading ...
It reminds me to look at the big picture in life and not take my good life for granted, and instead take that good life and do something with it for others. I love this song!
